EBI's drug pipeline addresses seven major clinical areas.
Renal Failure
Reperfusion of kidneys of test animals whose renal blood flow had been temporarily suspended normally resulted in severe damage to the kidneys. The damage was prevented in part or in whole by the Company's compounds. A Phase 2 clinical trial has been initiated to mitigate kidney damage in cardiovascular surgery patients. Renal protection studies in transplantation and septic shock patients will follow.
SIRS/Sepsis
Pre-clinical animal studies have demonstrated the ability of the Company's compounds to rescue animals infected with various bacteria from septic shock.
Radiation Sickness
After completing Phase 1 clinical trials, the Company is now preparing for expanded preclinical trials in larger animals.
Anthrax
In late stage anthrax infections, toxins cause an inflammatory response that contributes to the lethality of infection. Experiments are being designed to test the efficacy of the Company's compounds in animals exposed to infectious spores of Bacillus anthracis.
Avian Flu
Evidence is accumulating that an excessive inflammatory response is involved in the pathogenesis of avian influenza. Experiments are being designed to test the ability of the Company's compounds to protect against such inflammation.
